Dear Friends and Family,
With all the political and governmental turmoil, and the constant stream of negative information on social media, it’s a great time to pause and remember that millions of people around the world are dealing with everyday struggles that we often we often take for granted.I’m reaching out with a request that I hope will be meaningful to you. To those who have supported me in the past, I want to express my sincere gratitude for your generosity. To those who are new to this, I’m excited to share one of my passions. For the past 15 years, I’ve been on the Board of Crossing Thresholds, a non-profit organization that provides food and education to the children of the Kibera slum, just outside Nairobi, Kenya. Your contributions have helped build primary schools and launch educational programs for hundreds of children, opening doors to incredible opportunities. We currently have five primary schools with over 1,750 students. Each year, we spend $400,000 to cover most of our schools’ expenses. Additionally, our High School Scholarship Program is currently offering partial scholarships to about 200 future high school students. The annual cost is around $100,000. Many of these children wouldn’t be able to attend school or have a better future without your support. I was not born into poverty. I have never known hunger. I was never unable to attend school or see a doctor. This year I want to raise $25,000 needed to cover Crossing Threshold’s medical budget. Our children in Kibera must be healthy to learn. This budget includes the physician’s salary ($10,000) and a fund ($5000) for specialized care hospital visits. Your support has always been a huge inspiration for me. To the Jewish people, tzedakah means giving to charity, but it comes from a different place. In the Old Testament, tzedakah means “righteous behavior” and is often linked with “justice.” This year, it would mean the world to me if my family and friends could join Crossing Thresholds in our work of justice, helping children escape poverty.
